Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources Mohamed Abdel-Aati led a meeting of the Permanent Committee on the Regulation of Nile Revenues Thursday to follow up on current water revenues from the Nile and the implementation of mechanisms to achieve the best use of water resources.

Officials of the Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources attended the meeting.

Abdel-Aati said his ministry makes continuous efforts within a comprehensive vision to satisfy the water needs for all sectors.

These efforts are reflected positively on Egypt’s ability to achieve its sustainable development goals and effectively provide services to beneficiaries, he said.

The Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources has succeeded in managing water resources and providing these
beneficiaries with their needs when demand peaked in the past period, he said.

The Permanent Committee on the Regulation of Nile Revenues would be in continual sessions to appraise rainfall at the sources of the Nile, he added.

The committee will also be in session to determine the quantities of water reaching the lake of the High Dam, he said, adding that this would help his ministry manage the water system with the highest degree of efficiency and meet all water needs for the current agricultural season and for the public.

The minister stressed the need to continue raising the state of alert in all departments of his ministry in the governorates to monitor water levels in canals and drains and ensure readiness to cope up with any emergencies.

He asked his ministry’s officials to stand firmly against encroachments on the Nile and irrigation canals.

These encroachments have to be removed in coordination with all state agencies, the minister said.
