Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria stressed on Wednesday that the Church is praying for the success of the current Egyptian diplomatic efforts to reach a solution to the controversial Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam despite provocations of Ethiopia.
The pontiff, during his weekly sermon that was held without audience over Covid 19 concerns, stressed that Egypt under the wise political leadership is capable of preserving its water rights.
Negotiations and patience will not last for ever in light of Ethiopia’s intransigence to take unilateral steps, he said.
He warned of the grave consequence of Ethiopia intransigence, hoping that tomorrow’s UN Security Council session on Ethiopia dam will be the last step in this file to avoid more conflicts and tensions in the Horn of Africa region.
