CAIRO – The Armed Forces have organised a ceremony to mark the Israa and Miraj anniversary.

The Israa and Miraj refer to a miraculous journey that the Prophet Muhammad took in one night from Makka to al Quds and then an ascension to the heavens.

The ceremony started with reciting some verses of the Holy Quran before director general at the Awqaf Ministry Tareq Abdel Hameed delivered a speech on the need to follow Prophet Muhammad in all attitudes.

Speaking on behalf of Defense Minister Mohamed Zaki, assistant defense minister Khaled Shawqi stressed the need to cherish the values of justice, righteousness and equality, which were entrenched by Prophet Muhammad.

He also urged respect for human rights and pursuit of knowledge to be able to achieve progress and prosperity.

The ceremony was attended by a number of military leaders and officers, as well as representatives of the Awqaf Ministry and Al Azhar.
