Wearing his pajamas at home, an Egyptian young influencer simplifies economic terms and gives financial advice to ordinary people.

“Economy is complicated. So, I thought of getting my pajamas out of the wardrobe and giving people some guidance, especially in those hard times,” Mohamed el-Basiony, who makes content for the page ‘Ektesad Manzeli (Economy from Home)’ told the Egyptian Mail.

He referred to the crisis that rocked the international economy in the wake of the Russian-Ukrainian war.

Using a simple language, usually spoken by people on the street, el-Basiony talks about the stock exchange, cryptocurrencies, and exchange-traded funds and tells his viewers how they can overcome the current financial crisis.

He believes social media content that simplifies complicated issues important to a wide segment of people can be the most successful type of visual.

The content of Economy from Home grew successfully on all platforms, with most of the videos attracting over half a million views.

The page is el-Basiony’s first experience in the content industry.

He previously did voiceover, but has long thought of providing tips on saving, the purchase of gold and other issues related to the economy.

It was TV director Haitham Abu Aqrab who encouraged him to attend a workshop organised by Vertical Network, an agency that gives training on content creation.

Abu Aqrab wanted to help el-Basiony put his ideas into action and learn the basics of creating content.

“The workshop greatly developed my skills as a content creator, especially writing and photography,” el-Basiony said.

He added that the presence of a vertical network entity is beneficial to the content industry market in Egypt.

“It invests in the talent of the trainees, without any financial compensation,” he said.

Vertical Network supports and trains young talents with the aim of enriching Arabic content on the Internet.

It selects young people who want to produce content, but do not have the appropriate knowledge or capabilities to create or implement it, and provides them with support.

The network made its trial run in March 2022 by supporting five talents. In May of the same year, it organised its first workshop that lasted for three months. The workshop brought together ten content makers.

The content makers were involved in an intensive training programme presented and supervised by a network of professional trainers in the fields of production for the internet.

The workshop was held four times annually, with no financial burdens on the trainees.

Now, el-Basiony is fully committed to the creation of content. He plans to move ahead and develop himself further.

“Digital content is the future,” he said.
