The Egyptian  Ministry of Social Solidarity opened on Sunday Diarna Exhibition, the largest national gathering of handicrafts and heritage products, in Luxor, for the first time.

A furniture fair is also held on the margins of the exhibition, with participation from major furniture manufacturers in Damietta, the national furniture-making hub.

The exhibition, which is held in close proximity to Luxor Temple, will continue until February 9.

Exhibitors will showcase their products over an area of 1,800 square meters.

These products include – among other things – carpets, including handmade ones, accessories, glass, wicker, tapestries, crochet, ceramic, clothing, porcelain, home accessories made of wood, copper, silver, alabaster, and handicraft and heritage products.

The event is also bringing together craftsmen and producers from almost all governorates, especially Aswan, Sohag, Assiut, BeniSuef, Fayoum, North and South Sinai, in addition to Cairo and Alexandria.

Minister of Social Solidarity, Neveen al-Kabbaj, said holding the exhibition in Luxor this year advances her ministry’s efforts to markethandmade and artisanal products.

These products, the minister said, reflect the beauty of Egypt’s heritage.

“The exhibition also comes within the framework of the efforts and the policies of the ministry to provide support to small producers and promote Egyptian handicraft and heritage products in all governorates,” Minister el-Kabbaj said.
