Egypt’s Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli presided over a meeting on Sunday to follow up progress rate of the monorail and Light Rail Transit (LRT) projects in the presence of Housing Minister Essam el Gazzar, Transport Minister Kamel el Qazir and other senior officials.

Madbouli underlined the importance of maintaining coordination among bodies concerned to iron out any hurdles facing these two giant projects that will help facilitate movement of passengers from Cairo and Giza to the New Administrative Capital.

The transport minister made a presentation on workflow of the electric train which will link El Salam City with the New Administrative Capital, through the 10th of Ramadan City.

The first phase of the LRT project will connect the new capital with the Adly Mansour station, a central metro interchange station in Cairo on the Cairo-Ismailia desert road. The station is set to include an LRT system, a railway station, a SuperJet bus station and a shuttle bus station.

The second phase extends over 18.5 km and comprises four stations starting from the new capital to a central interchange station linked with the high-speed train line in Ain Sokhna city on the Red Sea coast.

In addition to the LRT, the new capital will also be connected to Greater Cairo by Egypt’s first monorail train over a 56.5 km stretch of road.
