CBE cancels Letter of Credit system for importing

The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) decided on Thursday to cancel the use of the Letter of Credit (LC) system for imports.

In a statement issued Thursday, the CBE said it cancelled the decision, that was issued on February 13, that requires importers to get letters of credit for their purchases.

The CBE decided to return to documentary collections for imported goods and implementation of import operations, the statement said.
