Civil Aviation Minister Mohamed Abbas reviewed the ministry’s plan in the environmental sphere and its vision to expand the use of new and renewable energy in the various air transport activities and transform Egyptian airports into “environmentally friendly”.
This came during the minister’s meeting Thursday with Resident Representative and Environment Team Leader at UNDP Mohamed Bayoumi and Director of Solar Cell Systems Project at Industrial Modernization Center Hend Farouh and in the presence of Environmental Adviser at the Ministry of Civil Aviation Amira El Sayyed.
The meeting was held as part of the ministry’s efforts to promote the environmental dimension, rationalize energy consumption and promote the use of the new and renewable energy in order to attain the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in tandem with Egypt’s Vision 2030.
At the beginning of the meeting, the aviation minister welcomed Bayoumi along with his accompanying delegation.
He also lauded the constant coordination and cooperation between his ministry and the UNDP in the environment and clean energy sphere in light of the success of COP27 Conference.
The civil aviation ministry gives top priority to environmental causes and climate change as part of its strategy to reduce carbon emissions, he further said.
For his part, Bayoumi expressed delight for holding this meeting, lauding the fruitful cooperation between the UNDP and the civil aviation sector.
The civil aviation ministry is exerting strenuous efforts to addressing the adverse impacts of climate change, he added.
The ministry also expands the use of new and renewable energy in order to attain sustainable development and increase ecosystem resilience, he said.
