Egypt’s Prime Minister Dr Moustafa Madbouli met Sunday with Health Minister Dr Khaled Abdel Ghaffar to discuss support for services offered by primary care units and centers.

Dr Abdel Ghaffar put the total number of primary care facilities across Egypt at 5,426. They offer preventive, curative and early detection services, the minister told the premier, adding that health education and family planning services are also available.

The primary care centers and units can handle 70 percent of healthcare services, Dr Abdel Ghaffar noted.

He reviewed the indicators of government spending in primary healthcare services worldwide; pointing out that it is bigger in low-income countries compared with high-income countries.

Dr Abdel Ghaffar also posted Madbouli on a plan to upgrade primary care services to include family doctors, specialized clinics and home visits (for persons with disabilities).

This plan is meant to increase the number of people benefiting from the primary care units and centers, thus easing the burden on hospitals, the health minister made it clear.
