Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi expressed hopes on Thursday that he can work with Chinese President Xi Jinping to push Egyptian-Chinese ties more forward in the coming period.

During a meeting with President Jinping in Saudi capital, Riyadh, on the side-lines of the 1st Arab-Chinese Summit, the president referred to the extended fraternal relations that bind Egypt and China and the two countries’ peoples together.

The Chinese leader praised, meanwhile, Egypt’s role in promoting stability and security in the Middle East.

China, he said, relies on this role to establishing a Chinese-Arab partnership.

President Jinping also congratulated President Sisi on the success of the United Nations Climate summit in Sharm el-Sheikh.

China, he said, is proud of its partnership with Egypt in all fields and looks forward to expanding and diversifying co-operation frameworks with it and supporting Egypt’s development process.

The Chinese leader also indicated that Egypt has promising opportunities for Chinese investments and companies.

He referred to prospects for the promotion of trade and economic co-operation between the two friendly states.

President Sisi’s participation in the Arab-Chinese summit comes against the background of Egypt’s keenness to contribute to strengthening and developing distinguished historical relations between Arab countries, on one hand, and China, on the other, the Egyptian Presidency said in a statement.

Egypt is also keen on contributing to the enhancement of joint action mechanisms on the road to serving common Arab-Chinese interests, it added.

The summit aims to build on extended political dialogue between the two sides and bolster consultations and coordination on means of maximising economic and development co-operation and maintaining regional and international security and stability.

President Sisi’s programme in Riyadh includes a series of bilateral meetings with the leaders participating in the summit on means of enhancing bilateral relations.

The meetings are also expected to include discussions about recent regional and international developments.
