Egypt celebrated on Tuesday the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. Egypt marks this day in solidarity with the steadfast people of Palestine, and in affirmation of the presence of the Palestinian cause in international forums and in the global conscience, which supports the Palestinian people in their just and legitimate demands, and their right to establish their independent state.

A statement released by the Foreign Ministry yesterday said the Egyptian government and people, in accordance with their historical responsibility, always stand in support of the Palestinian cause as it is the central to the Arab nation, stressing that the constants of the Egyptian position towards the Palestinian cause have not changed and will not change.

It added that Egypt’s commitment to its responsibility towards the Palestinian cause, the Palestinian people, Jerusalem, and Al-Aqsa Mosque is a firm commitment that will remain until the brotherly Palestinian people can gain their legitimate rights to establish their independent state.

Egypt also affirmed that the Palestinian cause will always remain the first Arab cause, and that it is not conceivable that there would be regional stability in the Middle East without just and comprehensive settlement based on the two-state solution and the relevant resolutions of international legitimacy.

Hence, Egypt stressed the need to put an end to the cycle of violence in the occupied Palestinian territories, and to stop unilateral measures that prevent a fair and final settlement of the issues of the final solution, foremost of which are illegal settlement activities, policies of expulsion and eviction of Palestinians in the city of Jerusalem and changing the demographic character of the city.

Egypt, based on its historical responsibility and commitment to uphold the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, will continue to exert its tireless and sincere efforts to resume the peace process, and to encourage all parties to return to the negotiating table, with the support of the international community and international partners, the statement read.
