The Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry underlined the importance of completing the constitutional path and the necessity of holding the long-awaited presidential and legislatives in Libya in order to attain the aspirations of the Libyan people.
This came during Shoukry’s meeting with Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya Abdoulaye Bathily.
Shoukry, meanwhile, stressed the need of respecting the elected legislative institution, said Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid.
Shoukry also congratulated Bathily on his new position, affirming Egypt’s unwavering support to restore stability in Libya, added the spokesman.
During the meeting, Shoukry reviewed the unremitting efforts exerted by Egypt to resolve the situation in Libya, especially through hosting rounds of Cairo-hosted negotiations between Libya’s Joint House of Representatives and High Council of State Committee on the Libyan Constitutional Track.
For his part, Bathily reviewed ongoing efforts to resolve the situation in Libya, affirming that he is keen on listening to all sides.
He also expressed profound gratitude to Egypt’s constructive role in Libya, saying that he is keen on holding coordination with Egypt within the upcoming phase.
