SHARM EL SHEIKH, Egypt – Deputy Minister of Planning and Economic Development Ahmed Kamali presented Fares village in Aswan as a model for the green village at a session held as part of the “Solutions Day” of the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP27, currently in session in Sharm El Sheikh.

During the session, Kamali said that the experiment of Fares village reflects Egypt’s efforts toward establishing eco-friendly villages.

He further indicated that Egypt has about 4,500 villages in 20 governorates.

Talking about the “Decent Life” presidential initiative, Kamali said that this initiative primarily aimed to improve the quality of life of Egyptians, to secure suitable jobs, and to provide educational and health services.

The initiative was included on the platform of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) for its outstanding commitment to the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), he boasted.

The great success of this initiative has contributed to launching several initiatives, which were announced during the COP27, he added.

Fares became the first village to obtain a certificate of “rationalization” from the Egyptian Green Building Council, he further said.
