Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi called on Tuesday for maintaining efforts to finalise East of Alexandria development projects, in accordance with the highest international standards, and as part of the current comprehensive development of Alexandria city.

During a meeting with Commander of the Armed Forces’ Strategic Leadership and Supervisor of Military Industrialisation Ahmed Khaled, Head of the Armed Forces’ Engineering Authority Maj Gen Hisham Swaifi, and a host of senior army officials, the president gave commands for capitalising on new hubs and roads around Alexandria.

These roads, he said, help reduce pressure on neighbourhoods in eastern and central Alexandria and facilitate the movement of citizens, vehicles and trade through these areas.

The officials meeting the president explained the development of the East Alexandria area in detail, especially with regard to the construction of the new city of Abu Qir.

The city will be the first in Egypt to be built on an artificial island in the Mediterranean.

This comes within efforts to turn Alexandria into an investment magnet and a commercial centre.

The development of East Alexandria includes the addition of urban space to it. This urban space is due to contain the largest seaport on Egypt’s northern coast and on the Mediterranean, in general, namely Abu Qir Port.

Various advanced facilities and service centres will be included in the city, demonstrating its modern technological concept. These facilities will include educational projects, tourist areas, luxury hotels, residential towers, commercial complexes, restaurants, hospitals, medical centres and sports clubs.
