A discussion session organised by the World Youth Forum Platform was held at the COP27’s Green Zone on Tuesday under the title ‘Challenges in Facing Climate Change in Africa’.

The session tackled the mechanisms in seeking finance for climate issues and creating initiatives for this purpose.

UNFCC director Rania Mounir said the African Continent has several investment opportunities to help create job opportunities for people from different countries.  This, she added, transpired during the climate change-adaptation projects presented  at COP27.

UNFCCC African team director Nayra Hatem said the families and children harmed by climate issues should be allowed opportunities for making a living through initiatives, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and students’ projects at universities.

The session also discussed food and water supplies in remote areas and water for agriculture.

At the end of the meeting, attendees suggested solutions for financial support for African countries in facing climate change through programmes by the Central Bank.
