Egypt’s Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli asserted that the Egyptian state under President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has taken several strenuous measures within the framework of facing the factors of climate change to create a clean sustainable environment.
He said that the current UN Climate Change Conference COP 27 represents a good chance to present the different efforts done by the state to maintain the environment.
This came during Madbouli’s follow up to the measures taken by the Ministry of Environment and the ministries concerned to face the air pollution in the districts of Greater Cairo, Delta, and Upper Egypt from September 21 until October 15.
In a report, Minister of Environment Yasmin Fouad said that the measures taken were successful especially in 2021 because of integration and coordination between the different ministries and bodies concerned.
Fouad asserted the importance of the efforts exerted that coincided with the hosting of COP 27.
The efforts exerted in the past years to prevent air pollution showed the increased awareness of the citizens with the problems of burning rice straw and the keenness of the farmers to collect and recycle it instead of burning, she said.
The ministry upgraded the plan of improving the quality of the air to be applied annually during winter and autumn, she said.
The report included a number of recommendations including the importance of working on increasing the effectiveness of the role of the administrations concerned to deal with the waste burning in the governorates where the burning rates increase.
