Egypt’s International Cooperation Minister Rania el Mashat has hailed as “strategic” relations between Egypt and the US.

Mashat, in a meeting with US Assistant Secretary for International Trade and Development Alexia Latortue in Sharm el Sheikh Sunday, praised Washington’s support for the implementation of the national green projects platform, aka the “NWFE” program.

The one-on-one meeting was held on the sidelines of the international climate summit, COP27, with the aim to review joint cooperation files and future measures to boost development cooperation, as well as mechanisms to support the “NWFE” program.

The “NWFE” program is part of a national strategy to face climate change, the minister made it clear, noting that it provides multiple finance mechanisms, which is important to encourage multilateral green transformation efforts.

Mashat said that the program serves as an integrated model that groups the government, the private sector and development partners to finance climate action.

The meeting also tackled the Sharm el Sheikh Guidebook for Just Financing, which was outlined and reviewed by more than 100 development partners, private sector institutions, non-profit organizations and climate alliances.

Latortue, for her part, said the Sharm el Sheikh guidebook is a very important initiative launched during Egypt’s presidency of the COP27, which opened in the Egyptian Red Sea resort city on November 6.

The current edition of the international climate conference will be a pivotal turning point, where enhancing global climate action is concerned, the US official expected.
