SHARM El Sheikh – Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Simon Stiell announced that 110 heads of state and government are participating in the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP27), which is taking place in the Egyptian Red Sea city of Sharm El Sheikh from 6-18 November.

His announcement came during a joint press conference here on Sunday with Egyptian Foreign Minister and COP27 President-Designate Sameh Shoukry.

Stiell said the COP27 is also attended by 10,000 civil society organizations and 26,500 people representing official delegations and bodies, as well as 3,321 media professionals.

He added the inclusion of loss and damage item into the COP27 agenda reflects a positive and responsible attitude from the state parties taking part in the conference.

Stiell asserted the inclusion of this item shows the state parties’ keenness to address loss and damage associated with climate change.
