The United Nations Conference on Climate Change Conference (COP27) kicked off in the Red Sea resort of Sharm El-Sheikh on Sunday with the participation of delegations representing 190 states and regional and international environmental organizations.

The event will begin by a procedural session during which president of COP26 Alok Sharma will address the gathering then hand over the presidency of the conference to COP27 President Designate Sameh Shoukry.

Simon Stiell, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Climate Change, and Hoesung Lee, Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) head, will also address the event.

On Monday, three high-level round table meetings will be held during which participating world leaders will speak about their countries’ efforts in fighting climate change.

According to the COP27 media committee, the COP27 presidency has identified a range of topics focused on enhancing climate action implementation and raising ambitions on a broad range of issues related to climate change.

Several themed days for focused discussions have been designated, which will include side events, panel discussions, and roundtables.

The themed days are Finance Day, Adaptation and Agriculture Day, Water Day, Decarbonization Day, Science Day, Solution Day, Gender Day, Energy Day, Biodiversity Day, Youth and Future Generations Day, and ACE and Civil Society Day.
