Head of the Egyptian General Intelligence Service (GIS) Major General Abbas Kamel arrived in Tripoli upon directives of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi. He later met Libyan Prime Minister Abdelhamid Dbeibeh and affirmed that Egypt stands behind the Libyan people and their government in the efforts to overcome this delicate stage and achieve their aspirations.

President Sisi maintained Egypt’s support for the Libyan people and their government, which aims to achieve stability in Libya, Kamel said.

The visit aims to boost co-operation and extend support for the political process and stability in Libya. It also comes as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and joint co-operation in all fields.

During his meeting with Dbeibeh, Kamel said that President Sisi reiterated Egypt’s support for the brotherly Libyan people and their government, which seeks to achieve stability in Libya.

He also said that the Egyptian leader stressed the importance of national reconciliation efforts as a key pillar of stability.

President Sisi also renewed Egypt’s support for holding the Libyan elections on time being the way to establish modern, civil and democratic state that the brotherly Libyan people aspire to, Kamel said.

He added that President Sisi also called on the Libyan institutions concerned to prepare for the upcoming elections to carry out their national duty towards Libya and to overcome this critical stage.
