Egypt’s Ministry of Social Solidarity organised a workshop last Sunday on the tasks and responsibilities of the ministry and civil society bodies during the COP27 due to be held next month in Sharm el-Sheikh.
Assistant Social Solidarity Minister Ahmed Saeda highlighted the general plan of the conference, which is divided into two sectors: blue and green.

The blue zone comes under the administration of the United Nations and is reserved for official delegations that will discuss the terms of agreements.

Observers and well-established organisations specialising in climate issues will use the blue sector.
The green sector will be under the control of the Egyptian government. There will be an area for civil society organisations to present their activities, and another for Diyarna exhibition, an open area for the activities of the Ministry of Social Solidarity, handicrafts, and an area for media professionals.

Prior to this workshop, an expanded workshop was organised on coordinating the efforts of civil society organisations participating in the COP27 within the framework of the partnership between the Ministry of Social Solidarity and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and in light of the directives from Minister of Social Solidarity Nevine el-Qabbag to support civil society participation before, during and after the summit, in cooperation with the Arabic Network for Environment and Development ‘Raed’.

“Representatives of 50 civil society organisations concerned with climate action participated in the workshop including organisations that have accreditation from the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) secretariat, and international organisations that have prior accreditation, as well as associations that have applied with proposals for side events during the conference,” Saeda said.

“The ministry supports the preparation for the COP27 through three main files, foremost of which is the file of civil society, and the file of volunteers applying to assist the various delegations during the summit, in addition to the file of allowing the participation of persons with disabilities in the Climate Summit,” Saeda added.
