The climate change file is on the top of Egypt’s priorities, affirmed Local Development Minister Hisham Amna.
Egypt’s role in combating climate change has grown, especially that it will play host to the UN Climate Change Conference COP27 on November 6, he added during his participation in a high-level roundtable discussion on the sidelines of the 7th edition of the World Congress and Summit of Local and Regional Leaders in Daejeon, South Korea.
Amna, meanwhile, set out Egypt’s vision for COP27, saying that this conference represents a perfect opportunity to confront the daunting climate challenges.
Egypt has a crucial role to play in climate justice for the African continent, he went on to say.
Egypt was among the 194 countries that have ratified the Paris Agreement, he noted, adding that the agreement’s goal is to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius.
Although its quota of carbon dioxide emissions does not exceed 0.61 per cent of global production, Egypt is highly vulnerable to the adverse impacts of climate change, he added.
