Greek soprano sings message of hope in her first performance in Egypt

Greek soprano Anastasia Zanni said that her first performance in Egypt was meant to spread a message of hope and unity that can bring people from all over the world closer.

“That is all about music; to celebrate what can connect all of us,” she told the Egyptian Mail in an interview following a concert she performed at Cairo Opera House.

Zanni made two performances last week; one in Alexandria and another one at Cairo Opera House.

At the Cairo Opera House, she performed along with the all-female blind orchestra Al-Wafaa Wul Amal.

“It is a very unique orchestra. They live in the world of sound and as a singer and musician. I also live in the world of sound. So, being with them felt like we were in the same world,” Zanni said.

Zanni made several performances across the world as a Greek soprano. She represented Greece in major institutional, artistic and sporting events, sharing the music of her own country with music fans from across the world.

She also sang the National Anthem at the Holy Rock of the Acropolis marking the 200th anniversary of the Greek Revolution. Zanni studied both in Greece and at the Royal Academy of London

After 7 years of living in New York, Zanni excelled in expressing passions and telling true stories through her unique emotional voice.

She had a sold out concert at the historic Carnegie Hall in Manhattan, as well as the Keyaki Hall in Tokyo.

She also performed at the opening ceremony of the Canadian Winter Olympics and the UCLA Festival for Special Olympics in Los Angeles.

Zanni sang both Greek and Arabic songs at her two performances in Egypt last week. She said that she felt warmth at both performances since the Egyptian and Greek peoples have close and strong relations and have similar songs and music.

“When I sang the Arabic songs, it was the most magical thing that I ever did. When the people started applauding in the middle of the songs, I realised that there is power in these songs,” Zanni said.

The Greek soprano plans to make future performances in Egypt in the coming period to further highlight the firm ties between the two countries and peoples, boost cultural relations and encourage the organisation of more joint events.

“At the performances, we were celebrating the friendship between Egypt and Greece and that is the beginning of a journey that would last for a long time,” she said.
