Sisi supports all projects, initiatives to mitigate climate impact: ministers

CAIRO – Egyptian Minister of Justice and Rapporteur of the Legislative Reform Committee Counselor Omar Marawan asserted that the state attaches special importance to the preservation of environment and countering the impact of climate change, highlighting President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s support to all projects and initiatives relevant to climate issues.

Addressing a workshop under the title of “Environment and Climate Change between Reality and Hope” on Monday, Marawan said the higher committee for legislative reform has been studying over several months the issues that will be raised at the UN Climate Conference (COP27), due to be held in Sharm el-Sheikh in Novemeber.

He said today’s workshop aims at gathering all bodies and experiences needed to float solutions to the climate challenges facing the world.

Meanwhile, Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad urged the higher committee for legislative reform to cooperate with a variety of experts to devise a unified environmental law to preserve natural reserves and wealth as well as biological diversity, along with upgrading the environment law as part of the state’s plan to reach out to a 100 percent green projects by 2030.

She also highlighted the academic studies that indicate that Egypt will be the last hub for coral reef tourism, reflecting the efforts exerted to maintain environment and mitigate the impact of climate change on marine life.
