The State seeks to increase the share of green investments from 15 per cent in the current fiscal year to 30 per cent in the next, until they constitute half of total investments by the end of FY 2024/2025, the Planning and Economic Development Ministry revealed Saturday.

In a report released by the ministry on the occasion of World Environment Day, which falls on June 5, it outlined Egypt’s efforts to support the transition to a green economy for environmental sustainability.

The State also gives funding priority to green initiatives and investments in line with a government vision for a green recovery, to take the lead in greening the future at the Middle Eastern level, the report says.

The new fiscal year’s plan focuses on encouraging ecotourism, applying sustainability standards on all economic sectors, speeding up the transition to organic farming and eco-friendly industries, building more logistics centers and boosting global competitiveness in various fields, while accelerating the development of a knowledge-based economy, the report added.

Pakistan is hosting World Environment Day 2021 in partnership with the UN Environment Programme (UNEP).

This year’s observance of World Environment Day will be on the theme of “ecosystem restoration” and focus on resetting our relation with nature. It will also mark the formal launch of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration 2021 – 2030.

World Environment Day takes place every year on 5 June. It is the United Nations’ flagship day for promoting worldwide awareness and action for the environment.
