Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has stressed the importance of dialogue and diplomatic solutions to resolve the Russian-Ukranian crisis.
During a meeting on Sunday at Ittihadia Palace with visiting Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, the president reaffirmed Egypt’s support to all good offices aiming at accelerating a political settlement to the crisis through stepping up international efforts with all powers as part of a multilateral framework.
The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, Deputy Director of the Middle East and North Africa Department at the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maxim Maximov and Russian Ambassador in Cairo Georgy Borisenko.
Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady said Lavrov conveyed to president Sisi the greetings of President Vladimir Putin, pointing out the meeting dealt with bilateral cooperation and the importance Russia lends to boosting relations within the framework of the strategic partnership through joint projects being carried out in Egypt.
The Russian side appreciated Egypt’s initiative to form a ministerial liaison committee from the Arab League to settle the Russian-Ukranian crisis. The committee, consists of Arab foreign ministers, visited Moscow recently in an effort to settle the crisis.
President Sisi entrusted Lavrov with conveying his greetings to President Putin and appreciated cooperation in joint projects topped by the Dabaa Nuclear Plant and the Russian ventures in the Russian industrial zone in the Suez Canal Corridor.
The spokesman said Lavrov posted president Sisi on the latest developments regarding the Russian-Ukranian crisis and the Russian efforts in that domain.
They discussed cooperation in the fields of food security and grain exports as well as the oil and gas sectors.
