Egypt’s Local Development Minister Mahmoud Shaarawi and Cairo Governor Khaled Abdel Aal paid a surprise tour in a number of public transportation terminals to make sure that the drivers abide by the new tariff.
The minister and the governor toured a public transportation stop in Al Alf Maskan district, where they ensured that the increase in the ride tariff is commensurate with the rise in fuel prices.
The minister, meanwhile, urged citizens not to pay an extra fee and to report any violations in this respect.
The minister and the governor also made sure that signboards announcing the fees of each route are in their place.
Also, they also inspected the public transportation vehicles, which were directed to have stickers announcing the route and fees.
The governor, meanwhile, said that the increase in the service tariff ranged between 25 piasters, 50 piasters and 75 piasters for long lines of more than 40 km.
The public transport authority buses tariffs were also increased by 50 piasters, he said, adding that the tariff of the regions was modified to a maximum of 7%.
The taxi ride tariffs were also modified become 7.5 pounds to open the meter, which includes 1 km, instead of 7 pounds, he further said.
He further called on citizens to report any violations via the hotlines 114 and 15496.
