The Health and Population Ministry announced a hearing screening was conducted for 3.280 million children nationwide as part of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s initiative for early detection and treatment of hearing loss and impairment targeting newborn children.
Spokesman for the Health and Population Ministry Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said the initiative was launched at 3,500 health units and offices across all governorates, to conduct auditory screening tests for children since birth and until the age of 28 days.
He further noted that 190,072 children were transferred for re-examination for a second time through a confirmation test, a week after the first examination was conducted.
Other children were sent to treatment, listening device installation or cochlear implant operation according to their conditions, according to him.
