Welcome to our first ‘News Digest’ of this week; among yesterday’s main topics were violations of Palestinian-Israeli ceasefire, Egypt water issue, and black fungus.

The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday condemned the continued incursions by Israeli forces and settlers of the Al-Aqsa Mosque courtyards, noting that the continued incursions represent a disregard for the efforts exerted to stabilise the status quo.

At the same time, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has stressed, during his meeting with Cypriot Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides, the necessity of prompt work to revive the peace process between the Palestinian and Israeli sides, on the basis of the two-state solution.

In parallel, the UN Security Council called in a statement for the “complete” respect for the ceasefire brokered by Egypt between Israel and the Palestinian factions. The statement is the first to be approved by all council members since the beginning of bombing on May 10.

Also yesterday, the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation announced raising the state of emergency between its agencies to the maximum levels possible, in preparation for the summer planting season, and coinciding with Ethiopia’s unilaterally embarking in the second filling of the GERD.

The ministry statement said that “this aims to reach water to all sectors and to avoid problems ensuing of the increasing water demand, as a result of high temperatures”.

The Ministry of Health stated on Sunday on the “black fungus” that ‘there is no need for panic’; the black fungus is not a strange disease, but rather a side effect of some immunodeficiency patients.

The ministry statement followed rumors buzzing social media platforms on the penetration of the lethal strain of Covid-19 from India to Egypt. The statement called on social media sites to stop intimidation, and to investigate accuracy.
