Al Ahly secured a 2-2 draw in the Cairo derby against Zamalek in the Egyptian Premier League on Sunday night at Al Salam stadium.

Salah Mohsen’s header saved the day for the Red Eagles, who conceded two goals in the second half which cancelled Al Ahly’s 1-0 advantage of the first half.

The Red Eagles are still in a very good position in the league table with 41 points from 18 games, only four points behind the leaders, Zamalek who played 21 matches.

First Half

The Red Eagles enjoyed a flying start with Mohamed Sherif opening the score after 11 minutes in the game after a mistake from Zamalek’s defender Mohamed Abdelghany.

Abdelghany failed to clear the ball and Sherif was in the perfect place to put the ball in the back of the net.

Five minutes later, the Red Devils missed a double chance to score the second goal as the efforts of Afsha and Abdelkader were saved by Zamalek’s goalkeeper, Mohamed Awad.

Awad saved his team again when he blocked a sensational pass from Ali Maaloul.

Second Half

Samy Komsan made a substitution at half-time with Hussein El Shahat replacing Percy Tau.

El Shahat added more energy to the right flank and he was close to double the score but his efforts missed the target.

Hamdy Fathy picked up a muscular injury after 15 minutes from the interval and he was forced to leave the pitch and was replaced by Mahmoud Metwally.

The visitors leveled the score in the 68th minute thanks to a header from Achraf Bencharki that found the back of the net.

Shikabala gave the White Knights the lead after meeting a ground cross that Ali Maaloul failed to clear.

Despite the setback, Al-Ahly players remained on the front foot and managed to equalize the score after only two minutes.

A sensational cross from Taher Mohamed Taher found Salah Mohsen, who was unmarked at the far post to put the ball in the back of the net.

It was a game that lived up to the pre-match hype and witnessed much drama from both sides.
