CAIRO– Egypt’s Petroleum Ministry said Monday that a tanker laden with 5,500 tonnes of gas has been steavedored at Damietta Port.
This is the first butane tanker to dock at the port, paving the way for a pilot operation to receive more shipments of imported butane, the Ministry said in a statement.
The tanker docked at the berth of the United Gas Derivatives Company (UGDC), which is considered a new stop to receive imported butane products from the Mediterranean Sea.
Petroleum Minister Tareq el Molla said his Ministry exerts efforts to secure the different oil products needed by the local market and supply natural gas and fuel to power stations.
He pressed for employing advanced digital technology to keep an accurate record of oil and butane gas stocks.
Molla was speaking during a meeting with a number of leaders of the petroleum sector to follow up local supplies of oil with the aim to meet needs of citizens and fuel-consuming sectors, atop of which electricity.
The meeting also took up the operation of petroleum refineries and programmes to make optimal economic use of refined energy.
The minister also reviewed local production of butane gas and programmes to receive imported shipments.
