CAIRO – Egyptian Planning Minister Hala el-Saeed witnessed inking an agreement on expanding a station for treating sanitation water in Helwan and upgrading it with joint funding from the EU, the French Development Agency (AFD) and the European Investment Bank.
In statements, Saeed said the project comes within the framework of Neighborhood, Development and International Co-operation Instrument (NDICI), adding that it represents a basic funding tool for the EU that forms bilateral co-operation in Egypt and copes with “strategy of sustainable development-vision 2030” and goals of sustainable development.
Saeed said the project represents peak of fruitful partnership which became stronger in the past years.
Egypt has taken big steps to meet the water needs via effective management of its limited water resources, she said, adding that Egypt targets directing LE294 billion investments within the fiscal year 2022/2023 for the sector of housing, water services and sanitation.
Egypt started implementing an ambitious and integrated strategy to manage water resources, she said, adding that the plan is comprehensive, as it works on handing the issues of getting drinking water and sanitation in addition to improving the type of water and water scarcity via boosting the efficiency of using and recycling water.
According to Saeed, the strategy aims at achieving rational use of groundwater via improving, developing and using modern irrigation systems in the agricultural lands and boosting the participation abilities of the private sector to shoulder the responsibilities of managing, operating and maintaining groundwater systems.
