The Egyptian National Press Authority (NPA) has mourned veteran journalist and columnist Salah Montasser who passed away on Sunday aged 87, after a long struggle with illness.
“The Egyptian press has lost a great figure who had a distinctive imprint and a copious professional record,” NPA head Abdel-sadeq el-Shorbagy said in a statement on Sunday.
The late Montasser was a prominent columnist in Al-Ahram newspaper, a member of the legislative Shura Council and the Supreme Press Council of the Press and chairman of the board of directors of the Cairo-based Arab Media Centre. He also served for nine years, until 1994, as the editor-in-chief of the October magazine, and chairman of Dar Al-Maref publishing house.
