Egypt’s Minister of Civil Aviation Mohamed Manar greeted Saturday all EgyptAir staff on the 90th anniversary of the national flag carrier.

“Over the past 90 years, the company has managed to overcome the subsequent challenges and crises the air travel industry has gone through, and even went on improving its air fleet and expanding its airline network when many global flight operators collapsed,” Manar said in a statement.

“The civil aviation sector in general and EgyptAir in particular have seen tough times recently, especially during the corona-crisis, the most challenging throughout the history of the air transport industry,” the minister added.

He applauded the efforts of the early pioneers who contributed to establishing such a great national edifice, setting a shining example for succeeding generations.

EgyptAir was founded as a private company in May 1932, becoming the seventh airline in the world. In 1933, EgyptAir’s first flight departed from Cairo’s Almaza Airport to Alexandria. The Egyptian government took over the company during the Second World War and changed its name to MisrAirlines, however, it was soon returned to its status as an independent company.
