Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Wednesday honoured winners of the 28th edition of the international Qur’an competition during the ceremony, held to commemorate the Laylat al Qadr at the Manara International Conference Centre in New Cairo.
Sisi awarded the winners in the first category of the contest, which includes memorisation of the entire Qur’an plus tajweed recitation and understanding the meaning, that is for Arab speakers.
The first three winners are from Egypt.
Abu Bakr Tshamala (Congo) won first place. Mahmoud Ali Shanfi (Comoros), claimed the second rank and Abdul Rahman Saleh (Nigeria), ranked next in this category.
The president honoured winners in the third category of the competition that includes the memorisation of the Quran for people with special needs.
Nady Saad Jaber Mohamed from Egypt won the title while Mohamed Ahmed Hassan Abdel Halim stood next.
Sisi as well honoured winners in the fourth category of the contest, which includes the memorisation of the Quran and tajweed recitation for children.
Sherine Mohamed Abdullah Amin (Egypt) stood first and Ahmed Tamer Mamdouh Mohamed Sabry (Egypt) ranked second.
He also awarded winners in the fifth and final category of the event, which includes Qur’an memorisation and tajweed for imams of mosques.
