Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi inspected on Wednesday the extensive renovation work of Al-Hussain Mosque in Cairo governorate.
The president was accompanied by Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli and Awqaf Minister Mohamed Mokhtar Gomaa.
The president also performed Tahiyyat al masjid prayer at the mosque.
After performing Tahiyyat al masjid prayer at Al-Hussain Mosque, President Sisi recited Al-Fatiha, the first surah of the Holy Quran, in front of the shrine of Imam Al-Hussain.
Giving a word on the occasion, Sultan of the Indian Bohra community Mufaddal Saifuddin thanked President Sisi and expressed appreciation of his efforts in developing mosques.
“I would like to thank the Egyptian president, government and people for their role in renovating the shrine of Imam Al-Hussain,” he said.
He also lauded efforts exerted by President Sisi and all State bodies, particularly the Awqaf Ministry and the Armed Forces, in this regard.
Following his word, President Sisi made an inspection tour of a chamber that contains relics of the Prophet Muhammad in Al-Hussain Mosque in Cairo.
The room of relics was added to the mosque in 1893. It contains a piece of cloth believed to be part of a linen cloak once worn by the Prophet Muhammad and a lantern with four strands of hair belonging to the prophet inside it.
The room also contains a merwad for kohl (eyeliner applicator) also belonging to the prophet and a sword that was sent to the Prophet Muhammad by one of his companions.
It also includes a Quran copy written by Ali ibn Abi Talib, the Fourth Caliph of the Muslims.
President Sisi also listened to a detailed explanation from the director of the military works department of the Armed Force on the restoration work of Al Hussain Mosque.
