CAIRO – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Thursday congratulated his Serbian counterpart Aleksandar Vucic on winning a new term in the latest presidential election in the country.

In a phone call initiated by Sisi, the Egyptian leader emphasized his country’s historic relations with Serbia, especially with regard to the Non-Aligned Movement, Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady said.

He also asserted Egypt’s aspiration to strengthen mechanisms of bilateral cooperation between the two friendly countries at all levels.

The two leaders also discussed boosting trade exchange and developing bilateral economic cooperation; in a way that goes in line with distinguished political relations between Egypt and Serbia.

Meanwhile, the Serbian leader expressed gratitude to President Sisi for the phone call, asserting his country’s keenness to proceed with coordination and consultation with Egypt in various fields.

Vucic added that Serbia is looking forward to promoting its relations with Egypt in light of Cairo’s pivotal role under Sisi’s leadership in laying the foundations for stability and security in the Middle East, the Mediterranean region, and Africa.

He also pointed out to Egypt’s appreciated successful efforts to stop the threat of illegal immigration through its territories to Europe.

The phone call tackled means of developing bilateral relations, particularly at the economic, investment and trade levels, in addition to tourism-related cooperation, the spokesman said.

The two presidents also probed the latest developments as regards a number of regional and international issues of common interest, he added
