AMMAN  – The Arab Ministerial Committee for International Action against Illegal Israeli Policies and Measures in Al-Quds condemned the Israeli forces’ aggression at the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the illegal attacks against innocent worshipers.

Such violations have increased during the holy month of Ramadan and resulted in injuring several worshippers and arresting others, added the committee in a statement issued at the end of its fourth emergency meeting on Thursday.

The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and in the presence of Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit.

Attending also were members of the committee which include Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Qatar, Morocco and the UAE.

The committee, meanwhile, warned that such acts and violations constitute a blatant provocation and an attack on the feelings and emotions of Muslims, and it had the predictable results of triggering an outbreak of violence, which poses threat to security and stability in the region and beyond.

The committee also described the Israeli escalation as a flagrant violation of the relevant international resolutions, rejecting all attempts to divide Al-Aqsa Mosque in time and space between Muslims and Jews.

Israel has to respect the rights of Muslims to pray freely in the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and to preserve the existing historical and legal status of the holy sites in Al Quds, the committee said, saying that before 2000, the Waqf controlled the visits of non-Muslims to the site through a booking system.

The Arab Ministerial Committee for International Action against Illegal Israeli Policies and Measures in Al-Quds urged the international community, especially UN Security Council, to compel Israel to abide by the principles of international law and international treaties and conventions and to stop its dangerous attacks against the Palestinian people and their sanctities.

The committee also said rallying efforts between the Arab League (AL) and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) will continue in order to protect Al-Quds (occupied East Jerusalem) and its sanctities.

The committee, meanwhile, referred to the important role played by the Hashemite Jordanian Kingdom in the context of its guardianship of the Islamic and Christian holy Sites, and the role played by the Jordanian Waqf in the administration and the maintenance of these holy Sites.

Reiterating its unwavering support for Palestine’s cause, the committee urged for a two-state solution in the light of the United Nations and OIC resolutions, with the pre-1967 borders and Al-Quds as the capital of a viable, independent and contiguous Palestinian State.

The committee further urged on intensifying regional and international efforts in order to attain comprehensive truce and re-launch effective negotiations between Palestine and Israel.

The committee members along with the AL chief and in coordination with the Arab countries will hold contacts with the international community and the international organizations in order to shed light on the risks of Israel’s practices against in Al-Quds and its sanctities, according to a statement issued by the committee at the end of its fourth emergency meeting on Thursday.
