Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty met his Somali counterpart, Abdisalam Abdi Ali, on Saturday to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations and coordinate positions on regional issues of mutual concern.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 22nd Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the Community of Sahel-Saharan States (CEN-SAD) in Tripoli, Libya.
Talks focused on expanding co-operation across various fields, particularly the economic, development and investment sectors, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nader Zaki said.
Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to supporting efforts to build Somalia’s state institutions and strengthen their capabilities. He reiterated Cairo’s firm support for Somalia’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
He also firmly rejected any unilateral measures that could undermine Somalia’s territorial integrity or infringe upon its sovereignty.
The two ministers exchanged views on developments in the Horn of Africa. They stressed the importance of supporting national institutions and safeguarding the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of countries across the region.
Abdelatty emphasised that responsibility for the security and management of the Red Sea rests exclusively with its littoral states.
The two sides agreed to maintain co-ordination and build on the outcomes of the consultative Alamein Summit, hosted by Egypt last October, to support peace, stability and development in the region.

In a separate meeting, Abdelatty held talks with Djiboutian Foreign Minister Abdoulkader Houssein Omar on ways to strengthen bilateral relations and discuss regional developments, particularly in Sudan, Somalia and the Red Sea.
Abdelatty called for stronger co-operation among Red Sea littoral states to safeguard maritime security and ensure freedom of navigation.
