President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on Tuesday called upon all parties concerned with the current crisis between the United States and Iran to give room for understanding and dialogue to reach a political solution and avert further military escalation.

President Sisi called on the United States and Iran to demonstrate the greatest possible flexibility at this stage, with a view to creating common ground for understanding that would allow the ongoing conflict to be resolved, Sisi said.

Sisi stressed the importance of pursuing such approach “before it is too late”, as the alternative would have catastrophic consequences for the region and the entire world, which has been grappling with successive crises over the past six years.

President Sisi reaffirmed full confidence in US President Donald Trump, as “a man of peace who had defused difficult crises on several fronts”.

‘I am therefore confident that President Trump will make every possible effort and provide mediators with all forms of support and assistance to enable them to reach the best possible settlement, sparing the region further suffering and giving its peoples hope for a better future,’ the Egyptian leader said.

The president made the call as he was addressing a joint press conference with Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar, who is on an official visit to Egypt. The two leaders held talks on bilateral co-operation and regional and international developments.

President Sisi noted that Egypt would maintain exerting all possible effort, in co-operation with regional and international partners, to de-escalate tensions and conclude a peaceful settlement to the crisis, to “avert the grave humanitarian and economic repercussions that a resumption of military operations could have on the peoples of the region and the wider world”.
