Egypt’s Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Sherif Farouk stated on Thursday that Russia remains a vital strategic partner in safeguarding Egypt’s food security and securing domestic wheat supplies, following bilateral talks with Russian Minister of Agriculture Oksana Lut.
He added that “our continued collaboration ensures resilient supply chains, enhanced storage infrastructure, and greater protection against global market volatility”.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Russia–Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum, held on October 28–29 2026, in Moscow as part of the third Russia-Africa Summit.
Following up on progress made during previous discussions in Sochi last May, both ministers reviewed joint co-operation in grain trade, food supplies, and logistics services.
Talks focused on guaranteeing the continuous, stable flow of essential commodities into Egyptian markets.
The ministers addressed opportunities to expand grain storage and handling capacity, modernise supply chain logistics, and share technical expertise in digital tracking and commodity trade regulation to improve market efficiency.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to ongoing coordination to bolster food security, strengthen the Egyptian-Russian strategic partnership, and stabilise global food supply chains.
