Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates has reaffirmed its rejection of any temporal or spatial division of Al-Aqsa Mosque, stressing the need to preserve the site’s historical and legal status quo.

The ministry outlined its position on Wednesday as part of its public awareness campaign, “Waai – Your Guide to Understanding Statements,” which aims to explain diplomatic terms used in official statements.

On the campaign’s third day, the ministry explained that the temporal and spatial division of Al-Aqsa Mosque refers to allocating specific times or separate areas of the mosque to different religious groups.

Such arrangements contradict the established rules governing the site’s use and administration, the ministry said.

Egypt firmly rejects any such division and maintains that Al-Aqsa Mosque is an exclusive place of worship for Muslims, in accordance with the internationally recognised historical and legal status quo.

The Foreign Ministry launched the campaign on Monday to raise public awareness of diplomatic terminology and foreign policy issues.

Through a series of educational posts, the campaign provides clear and simple explanations of terms commonly used in official statements. It also seeks to improve public understanding of Egypt’s foreign policy positions.
