The Egyptian Armed Forces has concluded an international training course for senior national planners of UN peace operations, organised by the Liaison Agency with International Organisations (LAWIO) of the Military Intelligence Authority, in co-operation with the Integrated Training Service (ITS) of the UN Department of Peace Operations.
The course brought together representatives of the defence, interior and foreign ministries of friendly and sisterly countries, alongside Egyptian Armed Forces officers, LAWIO personnel, and international trainers and experts specialising in peace operations and operational support at the UN Secretariat.
The programme covered strategic and operational topics aimed at strengthening national personnel’s capabilities in planning and managing contributions to UN missions, improving co-ordination between national institutions and the UN, and enhancing decision-making when preparing national deployments in line with mission requirements and evolving international circumstances.
It also addressed needs assessment, negotiations, planning and preparation, the deployment of military and police personnel, aligning mission requirements with available national capabilities, and training and preparing troops, military observers, police officers and staff officers.
The course featured specialised lectures, discussion sessions and practical exercises to facilitate the exchange of expertise and international best practices.
It also sought to enhance participants’ ability to manage risks, address challenges, improve operational readiness, and strengthen their planning, analytical and decision-making skills in multinational and multicultural environments.
At the conclusion of the course, the Armed Forces expressed its appreciation to the participants, who praised the programme’s organisation and preparation, as well as its academic and practical content. They also commended Egypt’s and the Armed Forces’ role in supporting UN efforts and developing international peacekeeping capabilities.
The course forms part of the Egyptian Armed Forces’ efforts to strengthen co-operation with international organisations, institutions and specialised training centres worldwide, while reinforcing Egypt’s position as a regional and international hub for training, qualification and capacity-building.
