Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held a telephone conversation on Sunday with Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi to discuss bilateral co-operation and recent regional developments.
Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ambassador Nader Zaki stated that the call reviewed the fruitful co-operation between Egypt and the IAEA in the field of the peaceful uses of nuclear energy.
Both sides welcomed the progress achieved in implementing the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant project and commended the Agency’s technical support to Egypt under its technical co-operation programme.
This support contributes to strengthening national capabilities and benefiting from international expertise in the nuclear energy sector.
The conversation also addressed regional developments amid the risk of further escalation.
In this respect, Minister Abdelatty stressed the urgent need to contain the current crisis and intensify diplomatic efforts to reach an agreement that restores calm.
He reiterated Egypt’s rejection of military solutions, warning of their potentially grave security, political and economic repercussions for the region and the wider world.
The minister further emphasised the importance of prioritising political solutions as the most effective means of preventing further escalation and safeguarding regional and international security and stability.
