The Minister of Civil Aviation, Sameh El-Hefny, has met the Ambassador of Slovenia to Cairo, Sašo Podlesnik, to discuss ways to enhance bilateral co-operation in civil aviation, strengthen air connectivity and unlock new opportunities for tourism and economic growth between the two countries.
The meeting, held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, formed part of ongoing efforts to deepen Egyptian-Slovenian relations and explore practical avenues for expanding co-operation in the air transport sector.
The President of the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority, Captain Sameh Fawzy, the Head of the Air Transport Sector at the Authority, Salma El-Tahhan, and the Director General of International Relations at the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Lamiaa Sami, were present at the meeting.
Discussions focused on the progress towards finalising the bilateral air transport agreement, including the completion of technical negotiations and the alignment of both sides on the outstanding issues required to advance the formal procedures.
Concluding the agreement would establish a framework for broader operational opportunities for airlines, support the introduction of scheduled services and strengthen connectivity between the Egyptian and Slovenian markets.
The two sides also considered the possibility of converting existing charter flights between Ljubljana and Hurghada into scheduled services, in response to anticipated growth in tourism demand.
In addition, they explored prospects for co-operation in air cargo, with a view to supporting trade, improving transport links and creating further opportunities for economic collaboration.
For his part, Minister El-Hefny stressed the importance of completing the technical discussions on the air transport agreement with Slovenia, noting that its finalisation would pave the way for expanded co-operation and new operational prospects.
He also highlighted the longstanding relations between Egypt and Slovenia and the shared commitment to strengthening bilateral ties across various sectors, particularly civil aviation and tourism, in a manner that serves the mutual interests of both countries.
The Slovenian ambassador, meanwhile, reaffirmed Slovenia’s interest in expanding co-operation with Egypt in civil aviation and enhancing opportunities for tourism development.
He emphasised that improved air connectivity would facilitate travel between the two countries and encourage stronger tourism exchanges.
