National identity card issuance teams began work on Saturday at a number of Egyptian diplomatic and consular missions abroad, including in Jordan, Dubai and Abu Dhabi, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Saturday.
Hundreds of Egyptians living abroad visited the diplomatic and consular missions seeking to issue, renew or update information on their national identity cards.
The initiative is part of the Foreign Ministry’s efforts to protect the interests of and meet the needs of Egyptian communities abroad, in coordination with the Civil Status Sector at the Interior Ministry, the statement said.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Nader Zaki said the national ID card issuance teams would visit a number of additional countries in the coming period, including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Lebanon, France, Italy and Greece.
The visits are intended to meet the needs of Egyptians abroad and implement the outcomes of the seventh edition of the Conference of Egyptians Abroad, held in Cairo in early August, Zaki said.
He urged members of Egyptian communities in countries where the ID issuance teams are operating to contact the relevant Egyptian embassy or consulate promptly to learn about the required documents and book appointments, allowing the committees to issue cards to the largest possible number of citizens seeking the service.
