SIS chairman highlights youth role in building awareness

Chairman of the State Information Service (SIS) Ambassador Alaa Youssef met on Thursday with a delegation from the Tahya Misr Youth Union to discuss co-operation on programmes aimed at reaching wider segments of young people, opening channels for dialogue, and strengthening their ability to critically assess information amid rapid developments in the digital environment.

The meeting reflects the SIS’s efforts to promote young people as active partners in building awareness, highlighting the Egyptian state’s efforts and achievements, and advancing digital literacy.

Egypt condemns Israeli settlers’ storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque

The Arab Republic of Egypt strongly condemns the storming of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque by hundreds of Israeli settlers, accompanied by provocative acts and the performance of religious rituals inside its courtyards, in violation of the established historical and legal status quo governing the holy site.

In a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry on Wednesday, Egypt warns of the serious consequences of the continued and escalating incursions into Al-Aqsa Mosque, particularly as they take place against the backdrop of ongoing settlement activities and provocative statements, as well as attempts to alter the existing status quo and impose a new reality within the Mosque compound, known as Al-Haram Al-Sharif.

Addis Ababa has accused countries including Eritrea of supporting an opposition alliance led by the ‌Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) that has fought with troops loyal to Ethiopia’s federal government since last week. Eritrea denies the accusation.

‘Houthis target power station serving Prophet’s Mosque’

Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi militia carried out a drone attack on a power distribution station in the Saudi city of Medina earlier this week, the Saudi-led coalition said on Thursday.

Coalition spokesman Brig. Gen. Turki al-Maliki said the Houthis targeted the Taibah electricity distribution station on Tuesday, damaging a transformer and knocking it out of service, Al Arabiya English reported.

Senior UN official fired after criticising Israel

A senior official at the UN’s agriculture agency said he had lost his job for criticising Israeli policies in Gaza, as the body’s head condemned staff who “play the game of human rights”.

Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) director Ben Davis told AFP he had been informed in July that his contract would not be renewed after 26 years because he had allegedly breached impartiality rules.
