As part of his participation in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly met on Thursday with his Lebanese counterpart Nawaf Salam, reaffirming Egypt’s support for Lebanon and its national institutions.
The meeting was held at the direction of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and was attended by Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Egypt’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ehab Awad.
Madbouly affirmed the constant principles of Egypt’s position in support of the Lebanese state and its national institutions in a way that preserves Lebanon’s stability, security, and territorial integrity, and strengthens the ability of state institutions to fulfill their responsibilities at this critical stage.
The prime minister praised the efforts of the Lebanese leadership and government, headed by President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, to make use of various opportunities aimed at containing the escalation and creating the conditions necessary to restore calm.
For his part, Salam expressed his deep appreciation for the support provided by Egypt to Lebanon at the leadership, governmental, and popular levels.
He stressed that Egypt’s position in support of the Lebanese state and its national institutions reflects the depth of the historic and fraternal relations between the two countries and peoples.
He praised Egypt’s supportive role towards Lebanon under various circumstances and Cairo’s keenness to assist Lebanon in confronting its current challenges.
Salam expressed his country’s aspiration to strengthen coordination and continue consultations with Egypt during the coming period, and to benefit from its expertise and experience in various fields to support Lebanon’s efforts to strengthen stability and continue its path of reconstruction and development.
He also affirmed the Lebanese government’s keenness to raise the level of bilateral co-operation and broaden its prospects in a way that serves the common interests of the two countries and their brotherly peoples.
