Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, met on Wednesday with a delegation from Italian energy company Eni to review the progress of ongoing projects, accelerate the development of recent discoveries, increase production and expand exploration activities in Egypt.
The delegation included Eni Executive Vice President for North Africa and the Levant, Diego Portughese, Eni Egypt General Manager, Andrea Barbieri, and Eni Egypt Deputy General Manager, Mahmoud Abu El-Yazid.
The meeting focused on expediting the development of the Denes field, discovered in the Mediterranean, with the aim of bringing it on stream as soon as possible.
The minister stressed the importance of close coordination among all stakeholders and adherence to clearly defined timelines to accelerate production and maximise the utilisation of the field’s resources.
Discussions also covered the implementation of the Meleiha plant in the Western Desert, where construction is nearing completion ahead of startup.
In such a scope, the minister underscored the project’s priority, given its potential to add new gas volumes from wells discovered in the area.
The meeting further reviewed developments in the Cronos field in Cyprus and plans to connect it to Egypt’s infrastructure following the partners’ Final Investment Decision.
The minister welcomed the decision and reaffirmed the ministry’s support for completing the necessary procedures and accelerating implementation.
The project is expected to facilitate the timely utilisation of the field’s gas resources, strengthen gas co-operation between Egypt and Cyprus, and maximise the use of Egypt’s existing infrastructure network.
Eni officials reaffirmed the company’s commitment to strengthening co-operation with the ministry, accelerating ongoing projects, increasing exploration and production activities, and pursuing new opportunities across Egypt’s oil and gas sector.
