Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly attended a summit hosted by US President Donald Trump with countries from the Middle East on Tuesday, representing President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the high-level segment of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, with Egypt, the Gulf states, Türkiye, Iraq, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon taking part.
The summit discussed developments in the Middle East and efforts to de-escalate tensions through political and diplomatic solutions, with the aim of advancing peace, development and prosperity in the region, the cabinet statement said.
Participants also expressed appreciation for Trump’s efforts to promote peace in the region and supported continued implementation of his plan for the Gaza Strip, particularly its second phase.
The plan seeks to consolidate the ceasefire, ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to Palestinians, launch early recovery and reconstruction efforts in Gaza, and open a credible political path toward a fair and lasting settlement of the Palestinian issue based on international legitimacy resolutions, according to the statement.
Madbouly was accompanied by Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, Egypt’s ambassador to Washington Mohamed Hamdy El-Molla and Cairo’s permanent representative to the United Nations Ehab Awad.
